convert bad into good = peace,charity/sun/shabbat,healing

likutey moharan 57:7

n. 118 rebbe nachman has taught that to subdue one's enemies, one must either fast or eat in holiness (shabbat eating). but, as the rebbe now points out, these devotions bring only to a 'cease-fire' peace, not a perfect peace. as is taught in the holy writings, it is not enough to merely defeat evil, the ultimate goal is to convert all evil into good.

n.119 yaakov, who represents wisdom, hoped to go beyond just subduing esav, he wanted peace with his brother. that is why he sent a gift to esav, including herds of cattle and camels--i.e. a symbolic act of charity.

57:7 but for an abundance of peace it is necessary to increase charity, as in the teaching of the sages, of blessed memory: the more charity, the more peace (avot 2:7)... and they said 'sun on shabbat is charity for the poor (taanit 8b). 'sun' is the aspect of peace, as in the teaching of our sages 'the sun shone upon him (ex. 22:2)'--just as the sun brings peace to all the world's inhabitants...(mekhilta mishpatim 6). this is 'sun' i.e. peace--is achieved only by means of 'charity to the poor'.
[rashi on ex. 22:2 'the shining sun brings healing to the world']
[also, after yaakov's night of wrestling, 'the sun rose for yaakov'; rashi says to the world it brought light and warmth, but for yaakov, it healed him. "the sun rose and was shining upon him (breshis/genesis 32:32) 'vayizrach lo hashemesh'...note 32:32=heart of the heart!]

n. 121 sun on shabbat is charity for the poor. the talmud states 'sun on shabbat is charity...as is written (malachi 3:20 ' a sun of charity will shine for those of you who revere Me, with healing in its wings'. the appellation 'who fear/revere Me' refers to thosse who observe shabbat. a bright sun on shabbat is charity for the poor, who are able to warm themselves in its warmth (rashi)....the sun is a kindness/charity (for the poor).
